Hi, I’m Katie, an Educational and Developmental psychologist practising as part of the Wildflower Kids Collective in Mudgeeraba on the Gold Coast.

I have been working alongside families for nearly a decade across schools, private practice, and government settings. Shady Oaks Psychology is about helping young people find their place in the world through a warm, strengths-based approach. Shady Oaks offers individual child and adolescent therapy sessions (ages 6+), assessment (ages 6-17), and parenting support (ages 4+).

In session, therapy is client-focused, with goals set by young people and their families. Parents are invited along every step of the way to ensure the best support is available for young people between sessions. I also offer assessments for learning difficulties, giftedness, behaviour, attention, and developmental delays. I believe in a collaborative approach, involving supports when possible, so we can help young people draw on their strengths so they can thrive in their environments.

I am passionate about supporting young people to claim their place in the world by:

  • Helping them recognise and apply their strengths to overcome real and perceived barriers

  • Guiding their support teams (parents, teachers, mentors) to understand mental health and neurodiversity

  • Empowering young people and their supports to advocate for the young person’s wellbeing across settings.

I believe bringing a neuro-affirming lens to sessions provides a sense of safety for young people to be their authentic selves, and to feel supported and connected.

When not at work, I am often playing outside in nature with my family and dogs, doing yoga, or baking some sweet treats.
